David Wilson Homes Gabion Retaining Wall

Our Southern office recently completed the design, supply and installation of a gabion retaining wall for David Wilson Homes at their Thurstan's Rise project in Coleford, situated in the picturesque Forest of Dean.

The gabion wall is to support the edge of a balancing pond with an historic hedge situated above. The original design carried out by another gabion specialist showed the structure encroaching on this hedge so was deemed unbuildable. The groundworker on the project, EMG Construction Limited, called on Phi Group to see if the design could be rationalised and protect this area of site. After discussions with both EMG and David Wilson Homes a suitable design was developed and an instruction issued to Phi Group for the design, supply and installation.

The gabion wall, built using welded mesh gabions, is over 100m long with a maximum retained height approaching 3.0m. Phi Group mobilised quickly using their large pool of labour resources, and the project was completed on time and on budget. Another successful project to add to the list of the hundreds of projects undertaken by Phi Group each year.
