Sci-Tech Daresbury, Cheshire

"Sci-Tech Daresbury is one of two National Science and Innovation Campuses established in 2006. It is a dynamic campus supporting high-tech companies to accelerate the growth of their business through innovation, collaboration and access to world-class technology facilities and business support."

Phi Group were contracted to install a variety of gabion retaining walls on this exciting project, by the Principal Contractor Galliford Try. Gabions are a cost effective solution, if the cost to supply the 6G gabion infill stone is competitive. There is usually a large regional cost difference with the cost of this stone. The appearance of gabions can also be architectural, depending on the stone used, which appeals to some.

This project was something slightly different from our normal gravity gabion retaining wall solutions. In this instance we utilised geogrid reinforcement to the rear of the gabion baskets to create a hybrid reinforced soil/gabion solution, with a face area of 120 square metres and retained height of up to 4.0m. We also designed, supplied and installed 120 linear metres of free standing gabion wall to act as a visual barrier.

Another successful project completed safely, on time and on budget.
