Barratt Homes turns to the UK's leading retaining wall specialist to provide a tough durable solution o their site in Nuneaton.
The project
Phi Group were approached following the failure of a retaining wall system under construction on site. The topography of the site meant that extensive lengths of retaining walls with substantial retained heights were required to enable effective development and maximise space. Following the failure of the previous retaining system constructed Barratts turned to Phi Group to provide a robust and durable solution.
The challenge
Coming into a project when it is already being developed is not always easy, and I this case there were areas where house foundations and even brickwork had been constructed prior to the previous wall collapse. There were several plots that had to be removed to enable access for us to construct the new retaining walls
The solution
The Andacrib concrete crib retaining wall system was chosen as the perfect solution. It is robust with 120-year design life and quick to construct. Due to the retained heights and proximity to plots, a maintenance free solution that will last for 120 years, designed and installed by the UK’s leading retaining wall specialist was the Client’s main requirement. In all we designed, supplied and installed 5 Andacrib concrete crib retaining walls that totaled 750m in length, retained up to 7.90m in height and had a face area of 4,500m2. In addition to this we installed climb prevention mesh, fencing and placed over 20,000m3 of backfill material.
